The plan was to have a different home birth midwife, but unfortunately, she broke her foot and had to find an alternative for you at short notice.
That is how I came to meet you at your home at the beginning of your birth window. Your brother is very excited; he is building a large toy train set through the living room.
Just 8 days later, your mom’s call wakes me in the morning—it is already light out. She says she has been having surges for 2 hours and feels that, just like with her first birth, things are moving quite quickly. She was already finding it difficult to answer my questions, so I immediately inform your second midwife; she sets off from Horgen.
A little later I am with you; your dad is preparing the pool with your brother in his arms, and your mom is sitting on the toilet. She feels most comfortable there. She takes surge after surge while I prepare my things. I can see by your mom’s face that it won’t be long until you are here. Shortly after, she feels the first urge to push. She actually wanted so much to give birth to you in the pool, but your birth is so intense now that she can no longer imagine walking those few meters. 4 surges later, your head is born. To give your shoulders a bit more room to rotate, your mom stands up for the final surge. Now your body is born too; you immediately begin to cry, and I am allowed to place you on your mom’s chest. With you in her arms, she walks past the unused pool to the sofa. There, you enjoy the first minutes of your life together as a family.
A warm welcome, little baby boy.
