Very early in your mother’s pregnancy, she contacted me, and I was thrilled to accompany you on this special journey, as I knew your mother well from a previous workplace. The desire for a spontaneous birth, after your older brother was born via C-section, was strong, and your mother did everything to prepare optimally for the birth. A week before your birth, your mother had Braxton Hicks contractions from time to time, which subsided after a few hours.
One day before your estimated due date, your mother called me at 2:30 AM and said her water had broken. I could hear that your mother was already working hard, and since I also didn’t find the yellow color of your amniotic fluid to be the most beautiful, we agreed that she would take care of your older brother, and we would then meet directly at Triemli.
A good hour later, your parents arrived in the delivery room at Triemli. I wanted to wait a moment for a freshly cleaned delivery room with a bathtub, but when I saw your mother, it was immediately clear that there was no time left for that, and we went to the next available room. There was no time to properly settle in, because you were in a hurry. Your mother already felt strong downward pressure. The cervix was already fully dilated, and your head had already passed through the narrowest point.
I organized some help from a dear midwife colleague and the doctors, as you clearly showed us that it was very stressful for you at that moment. Your mother remained fully focused, and your father was always calmly by her side. I encouraged your mother to push you into the world with all her might, which she did. After a short ‘gymnastics session,’ you were born, initially a bit sluggish, but quickly becoming strong and rosy. Because your mother had nasty pain and we had to make a quick trip to the operating room for that, you were able to cuddle extensively with your father in the first hours after your birth. When I could pick up your mother from the operating room, she was still a bit groggy but so happy and proud that she had given birth to you spontaneously.
It was such a joy to accompany you! It was an exciting journey with a happy ending!
